Godbound: A Game of Divine Heroes (Deluxe Edition)

Selected Option:

The Throne stands empty.

Heaven has fallen, and the Words of Creation thunder from new throats.

Undestined, unfettered, unchosen, you are Godbound, and your will is writ with fire.

Godbound is a game of divine heroes in a broken world, men and women who have seized the tools that have slipped from an absent God's hands. Bound by seeming chance to the Words of Creation, these new-forged titans face a world ravaged by the mad ambitions of men and the cruel legacy of human folly. Their foes are many: the jealous parasite gods that suck at the wounds of the world, the furious Angelic Host that once held Heaven against the armies of men, and the endless legions of sorcerers, god-monsters, mortal tyrants, and eldritch relicts that scourge the shattered realms. The Godbound stand against these horrors, determined to forge a better world from the fragments of the old. Still, not all these newborn divinities have a hero's soul, and some nurture red dreams of glory and unfettered rule. Will you be a merciful god to your people, or will you make them dread your holy name?

Godbound does more than simply give you the tools to create these wielders of the Words. Within these pages, a GM will find the guidelines they need to challenge the mightiest of heroes and mark tremendous deeds on the face of their world. Inside this book, you'll find…

  • Everything you need to take a Godbound hero from their first uncertain awakening to the pinnacle of divine supremacy, with mighty Words of Creation, divine gifts, and enormous works of celestial Dominion.

  • Fearsome god-monsters and terrifying foes to tax even a pantheon of Godbound. More than that, you'll find specific instructions and advice for matching martial challenges with situations and groups.

  • Sine Nomine-style system-neutral tools for building demigod-worthy adventures and Former Empire ruins. Create noble courts, lost shards of Heaven, hidden ruins, and dire perils for your heroes to overcome. Play a different game? Lift these tools out and use them with your system of choice!

  • A system-neutral Dominion and faction mechanic that lets heroic deeds have mechanically-supported effects on the campaign world. Your hero wants to build a fortress in her native village, or ward an allied nation from the scourge of a Host-spawned disease? These rules show you how to do so, and how to make it count in play. Need to find out what happens when the pantheon's holy nation declares war on an insidious empire of evil? The rules here will give you an answer you can use.

  • Old-school inspired play mechanics derived from the Scarlet Heroes game system that are easy to pick up and let you loot decades of material for foes and challenges for the players. Just grab a classic arch-enemy, run it through the conversion notes in the bestiary chapter, and you've got your next campaign nemesis.

But that's not all. While the free version of Godbound includes all of the above to help new players and new GMs get rolling, this deluxe version of Godbound includes yet more mighty material from the Sine Nomine game-forges.

  • Mortal player character creation, whether as desperate dirt farmers-turned-adventurers or as budding mortal heroes who dare the perils of this dark world. Can your PCs survive and prosper in a world blighted by the past?

  • Cybernetics and clockwork prostheses, for those GMs that want to add in a high-tech or steampunk-flavored note to their worlds.

  • Divine Supremacy and Paradises, citadels and divine strongholds to shelter the souls of the Godbound's faithful.

  • Godwalkers, titanic engines of ruin built by the Former Empires to face divine foes. Salvage them from forgotten ruins or build your own with the creation system here.

  • The Martial Strifes, divine martial arts that channel the natural conflicts of the mundane world into fearsome feats of destructive prowess.

  • And not least, Themed Godbound that allow you to customize and flavor the demi-deities of your campaign to fit your own ideas about how they should work- with five worked examples to show you how to create superhuman Exemplars, shapeshifting Proteans, fate-thwarting Undestined, elemental Scions, and patchwork Arrayed.

Every download includes the full-color, DRM-free Deluxe PDF, character sheets, .MOBI and .EPUB file versions for easy reading, and a special lightweight PDF version optimized for fast rendering and small file size. Bookmarks, topic indexes, and a full index of divine gifts are in each PDF, the better to speed your play at the table.

So get it now. Together with the calamitous woes a GM can build with the Sixteen Sorrows guidebook, Godbound gives you what you need to run a fast, smooth, easy-to-learn system for bringing the light of a new age to a world too long plunged into Uncreated Night!

(Nota Bene: the premium heavyweight print option has somewhat richer colors than the standard heavyweight. Both are printed on the same weight of paper.)

Does it also have a chapter on solo play, like other games by Crawford?

One question about dominion I couldn't find an answer to: Can other players pitch in to fund a project using dominion, or can only the Godbound with a relevant Word spend it?

I really, really think it's time for some more Godbound stuff.
Would be awesome i you couls spend some time on this game, but i would understand if Worlds without number would eat up all of your resources.

So I purchased the premium heavyweight book and noticed that for whatever reason it is missing the Word of Fate. The page numbers all line up so its not like a page didn't print, but the word is in the PDF. This caused a bit of confusion when we were referencing the book at the table. Is this an oversight in the printer file?

Nevermind I found the Fate word. The PDF bookmarks make it seem like it is grouped with the main word listing but it is not there which is where the confusion came in.

On the fence on buying this, really enjoy Kevin's work but a lot of the art looks fairly campy/modern as opposed to the OSR aesthetic I was hoping for. Figuring I can go for the free version instead but is this worth it just for the GM tools inside?

I've bought the full version and i can say that the primary things you get with the full version is.

Godwalkers. (Mecha and other badass magic vehicles)
Cybernetics. (Clockwork magitech Cybernetics)
Themed godbound. (Alternative ways to play the game, miiiiiiiiiiight be really close to another game i've played that is popular)
Heroic mortal creation rules. (Self explanatory)

I am happy i bought the full book. I fully enjoy the extra stuff, particularly Godwalkers, coz i find them badass.

But seeing you prefer more classic OSR, the mortal creation rules are fairly rudimentary. Sure they are nice and i use them in my own campaigns, but worlds without number basically give you more than this.
I prefer the simplicity for the mortal creation rules, but the entire mortal hero rules are like 3-4 pages.
I think that is good, others will think that is bad.

Got this, really like it. At first I was hesitant once I found out it was OSR, but really? I can use that, and I really like what I'm seeing. Any chance for future books? I'm looking at things like 'Fate' perhaps, or 'Law' or 'Justice' or 'Mercy' or things like that, maybe. As it stands though, you continually put out good work!

I really want to order the deluxe hardcover with the PDF. My issue is that I want it delivered to my office. If I change either my shipping or billing address, Deluxe RPG chnges the other even if I have "buying for someone else" checked. It is incredibly frustrating. Is there another venue where both are available for $59?

I've been playing this for the past month or two with a friend's copy. It's absolutely fantastic, one of the best RPG's I've ever played.

If you are tired of players running off the rails of your finely constructed plots, give this a try, since the default STATE is that the PC's will utterly wreck everything in your campaign world anyway :)

I strongly recommend picking up at least the free version, and if GMing it sounds intimidating, Storms of Yizhao and Ten Buried Blades for your first adventure.

The PDF is AWESOME.
Can't say the same about the book.
Ordered it before Christmas and it hasn't arrived!
Never choose the cheap shipping method on international shippings! It has no tracking number and if you live in Colombia like me that means it's going to get stolen by the postal service.
Now I've got to wait to the 9th of February for them to order a new printing, 15 days of printing and an extra month of shipping. (That is if they grace me with fast shipping, if not, the cycle can start again).

Sorry. Just needed to rant.

I wish for Kevin to write supplements and books for godbound. Best pc God based game I've played! <3
And the editing of the book was SUPERB.
If just other companies realized that no one wish to jump all across the book to check small things...

I live in New Zealand. The shipping service DTRPG uses for its cheap international delivery is often delayed over the Christmas break. However, it is normally pretty reliable (even if late). I have waited 4-5 weeks in similar circumstances.

Thing is... The federal postal service of Colombia is run by thieves.
u.u
They have stolen so many stuff from me...

Off course I'll wait... It's not like I have any other option. Still... Drivethru should have stayed that this were the details of the cheap shipping option. If I knew, I would have chosen the expensive one.

Man! I feel your frustration!

I just ran Godbound for a high-level group we used to run in Greyhawk 2e way back in the day through a scenario where they ascended to power during the multiverse apocalypse precipitated by the escape of Tharizdun from confinement. It was an absolute blast, and I ended up with my hard copy going home with one of the players (sold from me at cost), and I just bought another copy for myself.

Thank you for creating such an amazing OSR experience.

I want to thank you and your staff for all the work you put into this marvelous game. It has rekindled my passion for roleplaying.
You've given us so much with the free version. It's no sparse ad to merely peak interest, but a full, playable game. Your generosity is rare and acknowledged.
I will purchase the deluxe version as soon as my meager budget allows.
Thank you again.

Because he can't use the exact same print files that DTRPG uses, which means he has to REMAKE the print files, which takes time.

And he hasn't had the time. Right now he's working on other projects, like Stars Without Number 2e.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
