It's our signature runic magic system, streamlined and easier to use than ever before!

This magic system spawned the Runed Age, and therefore everything else that came afterwards. It's an amazing tool and now it's quicker to use and easier to grasp. The magic system in Runes of Power allows you to craft nearly any magical spell you can think of by giving you the tools needed to make your imaginations a reality. The slot based system means that you can swap magical runes in and out on the fly to create entirely new magical effects.

I just got the full pdf, the only thing is that I have no idea how to pronounce the "words of power."

Do you have a pronunciation guide?

Hi Brian. The Runes of Power is the "simplified" version of the grand runic magic system, and so we didn't include the pronunciation guide in it. The pronunciation guide can be found with the full and complex magic rules in the Enchiridion Sigillum (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/294937/Enchiridion-Sigillum). As a general rule of thumb, the pronunciation does follow a western-Germanic Low Country style of vowel pronunciation.

I'm having a hard time finding info on how to pronounce vowels like you mentioned.

It would be really helpful if the pronounciatoon guide was included, because it is essential even in the basic rules.

The only thing I can figure is to pronounce them like German or Duch, but neither of them have "ô." So, I'm kinda at a loss.

I am confused with the target slot. The definition states, "Target: specifies what sort of thing the runic array will affect." <br /><br />
But, in the example it states that a small fireball is created when air is present, but according to the definition it states, "If air is present, create a small ball 'out of' fire." There would need to be fire already present even though the action says that the fire would be created not shaped.<br /><br />
There is no target in that runic array, only an outcome. What thing is affected? Is the air transmuted according to that rule? But, if so, then the air would only become a small ball not a small fireball with the current rules.<br /><br />
Form what I can tell, there needs to be an outcome/effect slot for the action, not just stating the action, because it can become unclear. The effect itself needs to be stated.

This is a wonderful magic system. Good job!

Hi Brian, thanks for reaching out and for that compliment!

The 'target' slot in the runic array is the thing that is being affected. So in that example, the 'target' is 'fire' and thus the magic will work on fire. The 'air' is filling the 'trigger' slot, and thus the magic will only be triggered to activate in the presence of air.

The outcome of the magic is all of the five slots put together. So something will be created, as 'create' fills the 'action' slot; it will happen in the presence of air due to the 'trigger' slot, that something will be small, as 'small' fills the 'size' slot, and that small something created in the presence of air will be a ball of fire as 'ball' fills the shape slot and 'fire' fills the 'target' slot.

I hope that helps clarifies things!

Unfortunately no. In this example, for there to be a small fireball as the outcome fire would have to already exist, because the target is a thing that is being affected. It will not create it, if fire is not present. That's the problem. "Create" would be the wrong action here. I am unclear on how to manifest a fire ball using this system, or other things as well.

I will have a good think then about using a different word instead of 'target' as that may be where the confusion. 'Target' simply means the core rune of the spell, and what the spell will be focused on, rather than expressing something that already exists. It doesn't already have to be present in all circumstances for the spell to work. The 'trigger' slot is the one that specifies the thing that needs to be present in order for the spell to work.

With 'fire' being the 'target' in the example spell, the spell will be doing something with fire and not with something like water or ice. Perhaps 'focus' would be an appropriate alternative than 'target'.

Also, 'create' is indeed how you would manifest something (fire in this case) in the system, as that is the rune's function within the system.

Awe, I get it. So, what is ment is the target is the outcome or goal.

So, Triger - Action - Goal - Size of Goal - Shape of Goal, the Goal being the direct object of the verb/action.

That makes so much more sence.

Thank you for your clarification, and for respectful with me. I definitely want to get this and study it in more depth. I just wasn't sure to get, if it didn't make s sence, but now it does.

The illustration for the Rune "Mürgrot" seems incorrect on page 14.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
