Reaching Moon Megacorp’s Life of Moonson, Book Two: The Freeform contains everything that none of the players knew before this fifty-player live-action role-playing game began: all of the rules, ability cards, secret plots and game directors' notes.

Witness economic devastation, sudden tragedy, military coups, the hunt for the Moon Child... and the Glorious Re-Ascent of Moonson!

Written by David Hall, Kevin Jacklin, Nick Brooke & Chris Gidlow, with Michael O’Brien & Mike Hagen. Lavishly illustrated by Dario Corallo, with cartography by Phil Anderson.

The first edition of A Rough Guide to Glamour was presented to all freeform players as background information. A new, revised and expanded edition is available from the Jonstown Compendium in hardcover and digital formats, and is an ideal companion to this volume.

This game is set in Greg Stafford’s world of Glorantha, but contains no RuneQuest or QuestWorlds game mechanics. Life of MoonsonBook One: The Characters contains fifty illustrated character sheets, and is an essential companion to this book.

Note: material in this book deals with mature themes.

The Still Voice of Molanni misprint?

Was looking through the book just now - beautiful, and worth buying for the Gloranthan details alone!

However, I noticed that page 183 (The Still Voice of Molanni) seems to be a duplicate of 179 (Sultan of Kostaddi). Not sure if there are other such duplications (though I'll be checking more closely now); and quite surprised that no one has mentioned this in almost 3 years since the book was posted. Or have I missed something?

You’re absolutely right! I’ll dig out my old files and get the digital version corrected. If you bought the print book and want the “Still Voice of Molanni” errata page, just email me and I’ll share it when it’s done. Thanks, Huey! And in answer to your other question, that’s the first glitch anyone has spotted in either book since they came out, so we must have been doing something (mostly) right.

There is more "behind the scenes" information about imperial succession crises in "Nick Brooke's Gloranthan Manifesto, Volume Two: The Moonson Apocrypha," a free 60-page document available from the Files area of the "RuneQuest" group on Facebook which has also been posted to the "RuneQuest" forum on BRP Central (you will need to be registered and logged in to your preferred platform to access the file).

I’ve been asked how long it took to run this game. “Life of Moonson” was a one-day game, beginning with a pre-game meet for ten or so players at 11:00. The event proper began at 13:00 (rules briefing), with a costume parade at 13:30, then ran until 22:00 with an hour's break for dinner. The game timetable is included in Book Two, which breaks out scheduled and unanticipated events by hour, as they occurred.

Our Gloranthan freeforms were usually the centrepiece events at weekend-long conventions. We ran them in the United Kingdom (at Convulsion), and in the United States, Canada and Australia (at RuneQuest Cons & GloranthaCons). They spawned at least a dozen spin-offs and imitators; con-goers loved getting creative with their costumes and taking unfamiliar corners of the world for a spin.

You would need both books to understand how the game ran. Book One contains the fifty character sheets players received before the game began; Book Two has all the game rules, ability and item...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
