Tropicana

Important notice - if you bought any GRAmel product - you should receive a discount. If you didn`t get it - email me at pkorys (at) gmail.com. I will send it to you.

Once upon a time in the Caribbean...

In Tropicana, characters are adventurers, rogues and troubleshooters, on the narrow border between law and something else.

They are detectives and spies, gamblers and mercenaries, exotic dancers and celebrities in need, traffickers and thugs, pilots and soldiers, surfers and tourists, students and activists. They will
surely find themselves in trouble, be hired to handle trouble or actively look for trouble. And trouble in San José is always big, complicated and twisted.

And after any adventure, they like to have boat drinks and smoke cigars together by the poolside.

Tropicana is a game of action heroes, special agents and
troubleshooters in San José, a rogue state consisting of a tropical metropolis, its wild jungle hinterland and a small archipelago of
paradise islands.

Fight criminals, investigate ancient mysteries, solve cases, seduce the most beautiful men and women!

Now grab your gun and a mojito and join the spies, billionaires and
rebels in this gangsta's paradise!

It makes me really sad that GRAmel and especially Tropicana got abandoned.
The first was one of the best publishers for SW and Tropicana is one of the best settings for SW, or RPGs in general.

We are still producing games for SW, but authors of Tropicana are doing their own projects now, sorry :( We may come back to this in the future, though.

Dear Publisher, 17 months after the last time I can't help myself but to ask again - is the SWAE edition still a thing?

Do I have to provide Benny every time the song changes in the Tropicana jukebox? Or is it only the first song?

On p41 the "Lonely Heart" hindrance and on p43 the "Playboy/Femme Fatale" edge both affect the number of face-down cards a character gets at the start of a Seduction attempt, and mention the Hooks & Looks roll. But the Seduction rules on p65 don't mention anything about face down cards, and the Hooks & Looks phase doesn't include any roll. Am I missing something here?

Love the setting! I'm not playing in San Jose but I'm mining it for material for my own Caribbean island paradise campaign.

Hello Chris!
Thanks for the appreciation. Unfortunately, "Lonely Heart" and "Playboy/Femme Fatale" reflect an earlier version of the Seduction rules (which included cards, as you can see).
The updated version of "Lonely Heart" causes a -2 to the character's rolls in the Play the Game phase, when attempting a Sedutcion; "Playboy/Femme Fatale", conversely, grants a +2.
Sorry for the confusion!

Really great setting, would love to see more. It got me looking back on another great game of yours Nemezis. I got the main book and Galaxy, but looking around the internet it looks like you had sourcebooks dedicated to all three planets in the Horizon system. I can only find them in Italian, can you help?

Thanks for the quick response. But did you have to cut content from Galaxy? Because each of the separate Itallian books have about 80 pages and Galaxy is 104. Thank you.

Also can't wait to get further info about the Tropicana companion.

I bought this from a retailer, so i can not give you the 5* this product deserves.
Definitely one of the best little RPG Settings i have seen so far. The usual good GRAmel quality.
We play this with a humble Ubiquity conversion of mine and it rocks.
The book is straight to the point, no wasted space or sentence, this is the spirit of Savage Worlds (or Ubiquity).
Setting specific rules are good or awesome (Tropicana Jukebox!) and the setting overflows with ideas and besides a few typos and incorrect words very well written.

Congratulations to a very good title which deserves more attention (and a map!! :) ).

Dear Ryan, as we speak, we are working on plot point campaing (it will be for sale for some few $, and in one big print rulebook, which will probably cost 25$). And on another one sheet. And we really think about companion :) But if we will have companion, it will be in 2017.
Thanks for kind words :)

Not being a Savage Worlds GM, I bought this for use with the Paleolithic HERO System game "Danger International." It is a very good fit. I'm converting all of it to HERO before my players start the game. I expect it to be an arms race and a very weird one at that. The wife is planning on a grifter-turned-bartender character, and the other PCs will be either staff or patrons. It'll be Cheers with guns! Thanks for writing this, seriously.

Further to my review, I have played a quick game with my group, and they loved the Jukebox mechanic. I think a map might also be useful, since it was one of the first things I was asked for. The adventure I ran was an action 'treasure hunt', but after the game the players and I sat down and discussed how the elements worked together, and it was felt the setting had a lot to offer for a long term campaign. I will be watching for future releases for the setting!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
