From my reading through of it, it appears the suggested clue in Handout #12 does not actually exist. Please can you clarify?

I see the Yellow Sign on the second column, about one quarter of the way up on the right-hand side, but I cannot see the associated engram that the module suggests is right next to it.

Just bought the scenario and planning to run it next week. One thing that I can't get a grip on, though. Where and when will the characters find the puzzle pieces? I know one is at the flat and one is on display at the museum (are they supposed to steal it?), but where are the others?

***MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW***
Hi, Mikael!

Here follows a clarification on the use of the Puzzle Pieces. Major spoilers included; do not read if you intend to be a player of the scenario, only if you're planning on running it!

To clarify the use of the Puzzle pieces:

At the very end of the scenario, all investigators stand in a circle and hold hands while Megan “Angel” Schneider performs the ritual to renew the powerful Sigil to ward off Cthulhu. For the ritual to work, they must have pieced together the Sigil puzzle correctly. As such, the Sigil, with all its puzzle pieces, is a meta-game concept meant to illustrate their endeavors trying to discover the right patterns of symbols for the ritual to work.

The puzzle pieces are a puzzle for the players to solve, not the investigators. As such, there are no puzzle pieces atop St. Paul’s at any time; the pieces only represent the investigators efforts to find and combine the right symbols for the ritual...See more

Hi Jarle,

Thanks for the fast answer. Knowing my players, I'd better let them find the five small pieces. Finding two actual pieces and then being told that the pieces are actually just a meta-game concept, will frustrate them to no end and might throw them of completely.

And I have already made actual pieces of clay for them to find. :)

Hi Guys, cracking scenario and I'm planning to run it shortly. One quick question: the rules refer to a version of John Doe's 'chant' as being available for download via DriveThru. I can't see it there and as I'm a rubbish actor would prefer not to do it myself!! Is it available anywhere. Not a big deal if not I'm sure I can Summon someone and Compel them to say it for me!!

Hello again, David! Personally, my favorite Mythos stories to read and write are set in the 20s, reflecting Lovecraft’s own stories and real life. Adding to this, I like the low-technology of the era while playing in said period, as the investigator needs to consult libraries, scholars and mystics to gather clues, as Google, smartphones etc. are not available.
For this specific scenario, Pax Cthuliana, I’ve chosen the year 1927. As you point out, it could easily be moved to any year in the era, like 1928. The historical accuracy is already a bit of (as explained in the “Facts & Fiction” section), so feel free to set the year to your preference.

Is there any reason it is set in 1927, seems you could move it to almost any time, however if it was set in January 1928 it would tie in nice with historic events.

Hello David and thanks for your comment!

The goals at the intro is just a short preamble for the GM to know what this scene is about – what the investigators should learn. The goal for Clue Scene 1 reads “To consult the Necronomicon at relevant places and learn who has been consulting the book during the last two years”.

The ending of the chapter reads “When the investigators have the symbol on page 48 and the relevant information about Crowley and Schneider, there is no more information to be gained from Benedict Simon or the Necronomicon.”

As such, there is a coherence between those two paragraphs, and the GM should see them fulfilled. Suggestions for how he does it or how the scene may unfold, is detailed in the scene/chapter. Different investigators may take different approach – so may Simon also. The important thing is that the investigator leaves with the necessary information. If this is given in response to questions, given freely by Simon during small...See more

You might want to update the goals of Clue Scene 1 in the PDF, to mention the lead to "Angel" specifically, as this is a pretty important clue, miss this and the plot is completely derailed. Actually what happens if the players don't "ask Simon"? Seems like a real choke point, would it be better for Simon to volunteer the information?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
