Snowy Dwarven Mine

Snow and ash mingle in this eerie mine, long since abandoned by its  forebears. The wind that whistles through its hollow halls reeks of sulphur, and the scent of decay; carrying dust motes which spiral in the light.  

Preserved corpses lie within its tunnels,  forever embalmed where they hid, when the ash which devastated the  countryside blasted from the top of their mountain.  

Now there are only echoes, and silence—broken where the occasional rat scurries over hastily dropped tools, of the footfalls of larger creatures… 

Adventure Seeds 

• Paid to recover a new kind of crystal located within the mine, for a merchant who is considering reinstating it, adventurers are sent to locate the glowing substance based off a description given to them prior to setting off. But when they arrive, and uncover the crystal, if they are infected by it small veins of crystal begin growing up their skin, and voices begin whispering to their minds. They can feel it in their  blood; commanding them, with its telepathic hive mind intelligence. They’ll need a cure to survive, and to stop the crystal from spreading anywhere else. Perhaps they can find answers in the notes and bodies left abandoned after the “volcanic” eruption that destroyed the mine to  begin with. If they’re not infected and take a sample back to the merchant, be prepared for complications and a much bigger mess.  
• A surviving descendant of the original mine disaster has paid adventurers to guard her while she returns to the mine, and destroys the strange crystals for good. As she is destroying them, however, they call infected creatures from the depths to defend themselves. If the adventurers are infected by the fighting, then the she-dwarf will cure  them, but in the process wipe their minds. They’ll wake up in a tavern, with extra gold, not knowing how or why they got there.     
• Adventurers have been paid by a local scholar to recover the bodies of those embalmed within the mine, for research regarding the catastrophe that killed them. But when they arrive, the bodies are gone, and the sounds of halting movement and creaking tendons can be heard, echoing throughout the darkness...
