I was looking at these rules and wondering if I could use 15mm miniatures instead of the paper miniatures? I would want to scale down the bases somewhat, like 20mm for every inch in the rules, so an infantry block would be 80mm wide by 100mm deep, large creatures on 30mm square, and characters on 20mm square. How much does the depth of the formation play into it? 80mmx100m would required a lot of 15mm figures. I was hoping to use my existing DBA/HoTT based miniatures, which have a common 40mm frontage and a 15mm to 60mm depth (depending on unit type). I was thinking of using 4 DBAHoTT bases for a 80mm wide by 30mm-120mm depth (most infantry would be 80mmx40mm, cav would be 80mmx60mm). Would the game still play OK? Same with large creatures - if I had, say, a dragon that was really long compared to the width (say 40mm wide by 100mm long) would that cause problems with the game? Thanks!

Hi! I personally think it would work very well with the setup you described! I'd love to hear how it goes too! The game itself was meant to let people use any 15mm they want, and the paper minis were mostly to reflect the setting material :). The main thing to think about is likely tracking damage, but there are lots of ways you could do that, with tokens and the like! Again, I personally don't think the creature sizes will hurt or make the game not fun in any way either! I just want you have fun, period! I was thinking of doing several conversions to 6mm and 28mm, and I think the basics of the game did well regardless, so again, not trying to be repetitive, I think it should go well, and I hope you have a blast! Take care and thank you!

Great game. I have played it with my Warmaster armies but have to say that honestly captures the feel of a strait forwards Rank and Flank game. To describe it today would say it feel like KoW meets Warhammer 5 or 6 editions. I did have one question...for the Paper minis..what would format do you use to print it. Standard USA letter at a 110 or what? Thanks in advance and keep an eye out on YT for a few Bat Reps. :)

Hi! For printing we use Actual Size function, but some programs might not name it as such, and would just say "100%". That is how we did the ones in the photos. Did use standard paper as well. :) Hope that helps, was certainly not trying to be confusing. Be well, and have fun!

Took a chance on the bundle. Am liking what I'm reading, plus your voice comes out well in your rules. It's a pleasant read from someone who cut their wargame teeth on the old SPI and AH A.b.9.54.c.12345 rulesets. One question I have that I cannot find in the how to play section is Archer range rules. Seems odd not to have it on the army lists, since artillery range *is* on the unit card. Any help?

Otherwise it's a straightforward ruleset that is not going to bend your mind trying to innovate, but will allow you and your friends/children to play a fun Lord of the Rings-esque game. More base color variants and more terrain features, please!

Hey I'll answer my own question! Found them in the Equipment section. Would it be possible to get them on the cards? If it were a *.doc, I'd edit it for myself and send it back to you.

Looking forward to printing some out and playing around,
MJ

Thanks! Glad your having fun with it :)! Truly means a lot to us. It's our first project here, and it was made with, and for, happiness and joy! ^_^

In terms of the question, many mechanics in Battlelund call for checking range. All ranges are listed in the Equipment, Orders, Spells and Traits section of the book (and in the printer friendly Reference Sheets that come with the Rulebook). There was not enough room (layout-wise) on the Army Lists to include the range for everything, so we only included range on the wonky (un-standard) range artillery pieces. We do agree it would be very handy to have that information on the Army List.

Thanks for the awesome eye-opening feedback, and have joy! -Charles J. (Sundered Vault)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
