100 Rumours to Hear in the Monarchies of Mau

ADD TO WISHLIST >

As they may in other settings, players may have their characters ask around in the Monarchies of Mau for information and rumours, perhaps for an adventure they are currently doing. This supplement has 100 different rumours that cats could hear that tell stories and events in the monarchies and neighbouring areas.

The rumours can be used to provide background colour, as there is no guarantee that any rumour heard is true. The Guide can always flesh the rumours out into adventures if desired.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • Korat has been sending many cats from its house on ships heading to waterdog Port. House Korat has never really liked having to give up any claim to the port, and the rumour is they are sending agents to it so that it can be quickly seized should open warfare break out with the dogs of Pugmire again. Unfortunately for Korat, their cats are far better at fighting than they are at sneaking around, and their agents are all pretty obvious. Which could cause trouble in and of itself.
  • Large numbers of cats have recently started behaving in a manner that suggests they have been infected by the Unseen. They are turning rabid and attacking other cats. Such cats often end up being possessed by demons as well. It's not clear why larger numbers of cats than usual would be so affected, but from the reports, most of the cases are clustered in a few areas. Which suggests that there is something in those areas affecting the cats.
  • Lizards are normally a welcome sight in any city, with the strange goods they bring from far off lands, but recently there have been rumours of a lizard city in the deserts to the east of Angora. It's known that the geckos sometimes live in cities on the borders of deserts, but the others normally do not. Yet there are claims that there is a new city with all types of lizards deep within the desert, not at the edge of it. Why would the lizards have built a permanent settlement of a type that is usually foreign to them? Are they looking for something in the desert, or are they plotting something?
  • Many of the cats of House Cymric are entertainers who travel the monarchies performing for other houses or even the public. What most don't realise is that these entertainers are also spies. Sure, they put on a good show, but the cats use their access to different houses to talk to members of those houses, sneak around into places they shouldn't and generally gain access to information that other houses are keeping hidden. Presumably, at some point Cymric will use these collected secrets to advance their house.
  • Members of House Mau have been seen digging into the archives of their house, and the libraries of House Angora and, it is presumed, the archives of any other houses they can gain access to. There's a belief that Mau has discovered something new related to magic in its archives, and the cats are trying to gain more information on what is rumoured to be a very powerful secret of the Old Ones.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
