A classic Whodunnit Puzzle Adventure

Our Heroes are invited to the Monastery of Mystery to investigate the murder of Abbot Illius Greatsong. The priests of this monastery are famous for the keeping and uncovering of secrets. There are six suspects and only one murderer. But the priests – true to the God of Mystery they serve – will not yield their secrets easily. Can our heroes find the murderer? Or will the mystery of the abbot’s demise remain a secret?

Solving the murder mystery will surely be rewarded with answers to some of the questions heroes hold.

Highlights:

  • This adventure module is designed for characters of all levels.
  • In tabletop and virtual tabletop format.
  • Solving the murder should take about two sessions.
  • The adventure involves no combat but offers a lot of different puzzles.
  • Most younger players will find some of these puzzles too difficult.

Can be used with any gaming system and any setting.

From the description I was expecting a roleplaying adventure with murder suspects with motives and secrets requiring an investigation. That is not what this is. It is a series of puzzles on paper (such as a maze, a word find, and "optimal sheep placement" in a field of shrubs). A preview would have been helpful.

Sorry to hear it wasn’t what you were expecting. I did set up this title to show a preview but I now see it isn’t showing. I’ll try to fix that. And you are right, this adventure is very much puzzle oriented as are most of my products. I don’t use investigation checks because I wanted it to be system agnostic. Not all systems have a mechanic for investigation and finding clues through solving puzzles works with any gaming system.

To clarify: The npcs do all have motives. You have to figure out who was where at the time of the murder, and you have to figure out who is lying about their whereabouts. That’s really a puzzle in and of itself. But to get the clues needed you also have to solve additional puzzles.

You could substitute the puzzles with investigation checks to get the information. But if players fail these checks they won’t have all the info needed to solve the murder, which is a problem a lot of adventures that use checks suffer from. It’s really frustrating for...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
