Cyberpunk RED

Welcome to the Time of the Red, Choomba! The Megacorporations spent decades wrecking everything and in the aftermath of their last War, everyone has to fend for themselves.

A man with a cyberarm and a cowboy hat walks through a Night Market, exploring what's for sale.

But that’s just fine. You can handle it. After all, in a world of vicious boostergangs, rampaging cyborgs, corporate assassins, and nihilistic doomsday cults, there’s only one rule: Always take it to the Edge.

Take the big risks, get the big rewards. Be the action, start the rebellion, light the fire. Never drive slow when you can blaze a trail.

You’ve hooked your Militech pistol to the interface in your brain; upgraded your cybernetic fist with carbo-glas blades; and installed cybereyes that can pierce through the red haze like morning fog. There’s a world full of opportunities out there, just waiting for the right Edgerunner. Maybe that’s you.

Three edgerunners cautiously make their way down a corridor during an infiltration mission.

Cyberpunk RED is the latest edition of the classic tabletop roleplaying game of the Dark Future and encompasses everything you need to explore the post-War world of the Time of the Red, including:

  • A dense, deep-dive into the history and geography of Night City and the greater Cyberpunk world, and plenty of the lore about the Time of the Red.
  • Ten unique Roles for you to play: charismatic Rockerboys, lethal Solos, quick-hacking Netrunners, inventive Techs, lifesaving (and taking) Medtechs, hard-hitting Medias, duty-bound Lawmen, scheming Execs, clever Fixers, and range-riding Nomads.
  • A huge collection of useful tools, powerful weapons, protective armor, and gleaming cyberware to help you rule the Street.
  • Three Screamsheet adventures to show you what Cyberpunk is all about.
  • Pregenerated opponents perfect for populating the Combat Zones and Corporate compounds, plus encounters that use them to bring the City to life.

Want to try out Cyberpunk RED but not ready to take the big plunge? We've got you covered. Check out the Cyberpunk RED Jumpstart Kit, the perfect introduction to the Cyberpunk universe. Or, if you want to go classic, you can always pick up the legendary previous edition of this game, Cyberpunk 2020.

One of the screamsheet adventures in Cyberpunk Red is available now for play — FREE! — on Astral TableTop. The QuickStart comes with pregenerated characters and character sheets wired up for automated rolling. It also offers the GameMaster some guidance on playing the scenario on Astral for those GMs new to Astral or new to virtual tabletops (VTT).

Any plans on making a screen?

Yep! As we speak the Cyberpunk RED Data Screen is at the printer. As soon as we have it available for sale we'll also be adding it as a digital product here.

Is there any word on an armoury style book? I am not a fan of the simple "light pistol, heavy pistol etc." weapon table. I expected something more akin to shadowrun with specific models and variants.

We're currently working on Black Chrome, a book that will include more weapon options among other gear.

Does this have robots?

As playable characters? No. Robots and drones do exist as tools but not as sentient beings in the Cyberpunk universe.

Thanks! I didn't expect them as a PC race; but still do a lot with my 2020 rules (in particular, When Gravity Fails). Have always loved the setting and the 2020 rules don't seem as "dated".

Hello. I just thought you should know your link to Astral doesn't work. At least not in Google Chrome.

Hey, I noticed that on page 157, the Company Netrunner does not have any "Skills at +6" like all of the other Team Members do. Is that on purpose? Also, for some reason, the word Forgery (under Skills at +4) of that same page is sort of blanked out at the letters "g" and "e".

R. Talsorian Games, Inc. C February 24, 2021 2:08 pm UTC
That is on purpose and balances out them having a Role Ability when no other Team Member does. And it looks like there's an artifacting problem with the PDF resulting in those blank spots. We'll look into it. Thank you!

At the moment, we haven't announced any additional supplements beyond Black Chrome, a book about stuff and how you get it. More will come!

Does anyone know was changed in yesterday's update? I own the pdf but not from here and my bits and mortar copy still says version 1.24
Customer avatar
Graham A February 05, 2021 7:15 pm UTC
The latest version of the core rules is still 1.24. All they've added recently is the Cyberchair pdf and the Red Chrome Cargo adventure pdf, which has been updated for the core rules. Both pdf add-ons are also available to download for free from the R. Talsorian site.

Sorry for the late reply! As Graham noted, we didn't change the main PDF but DID add the free DLC content we also provide on our website (the Cyberchair and the Red Chrome Cargo adventure).

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but there are a few issues we noticed with the fillable character sheet that is bundled with this purchase:
Changing the BASE value for Dance or Pilot Sea Vehicle will change the other skill to the same, as well as Endurance and Riding - there might be others with this issue but those are the ones we noticed while making our characters.

Just noticed this on my character sheet. I hope they fix it soon! R. Talsorian has done a good job replying and fixing stuff.

Is there going to be some kind of Open Game License so that people can produce zines and their own content like it was done with 2020?
Customer avatar
R. Talsorian Games, Inc. C February 01, 2021 1:04 pm UTC
There are currently no plans for an OGL. The content produced for Cyberpunk 2020 by other companies, including the Interface magazine, were done via license.

Love the game and can't wait to play more.

Is there any chance of seeing this released for play on the Fantasy Grounds VTT?

I would love to see it on Fantasy Grounds -- it would certainly be a perfect fit.

Hey there, special question:

I have both Cyberpunk RED and the Cyberpunk 2077 Game, and I'm currently writing a long suggestion post for CP77 that I intend to put on the CDPR forum.
Some of the concepts that I'd like to suggest for the video game come from the book or take influence from it.
So the question is, am I allowed to list these suggestions/describe them in my own words, denoting influence?
(of course no copypaste, artwork imagery or the like)

Also in that light, i have a few questions on how netrunning works in the book;
Im not quite sure on how to imagine it, is your avatar somewhat like an 'astral projection' of you moving through cyberspace, separate from your meat body? Or do they move in sync?
The 'Augmented Reality' - can you see meatspace-people in another room trough the eyes of your avatar your meatspace-you cannot see?
Customer avatar
Ryan C January 17, 2021 9:02 pm UTC
There are FB groups and Reddit groups designed to answer questions just like this, but I'll give it a shot.

The avatar and meat body don't really move in sync. If they did, then the runner's body would move out of range of the access point, and be forcibly jacked out (and get nailed by Black Ice way too often).

As for seeing meatspace in another room, it is possible through the Control Action of a security camera control node. The runner does need to meet the appropriate DV for controlling it, through.

For additional questions, see, and check out YouTube. Specifically, JonJonTheWise and CyberpunkUncensored. The latter has a video specifically explaining the netrunner role, and another video where he performs a sample netrun with one of his players.

Hi there! You're always free to post homebrew content on public forums. Please do not duplicate text from our books, however.

In Netrunning, your movements in meat space and virtual space are not synchronized. Your Virtuality goggles allow you to monitor both the real world and NET space at the same time but they are not geographically linked. The NET Architecture you see via your Virtuality Goggles is a visual representation of the system.

Thank you for your response!

If duplicating means copy-pasting, there's nothing to worry about.

If it covers more than that, I'm not confident on where the line between duplicating and homebrew is drawn.
A few examples include: listing objects/items/mechanics with the same name as in the book, or explaining the basic concept that clothing in CP77 should use 'Stopping Power' and how this would work (same/similar), then adding my ideas and game implementations on top of that.
If that's critical (and if you provide me with an email address), I could send you the document for a quick cross-read of approval/disapproval before posting.
In any case, I'll submit my mail and the link to the post via the form on your official page, so you can notify me if something needs changing.

Regarding netrunning: thanks, I think I have a clearer picture on how it works now.
I thought of it more like if you'd roam a mirror-realm as a digital ghost before

R. Talsorian Games, Inc. C January 28, 2021 2:53 pm UTC
If you're making homebrew, you shouldn't have to restate the rules. Just listing:

Armored Dress | Shirt SP11 | 1000eb

would be enough for anyone with the game to know what you meant. You could, if worried, note "This item is armor and follows the rules on page XX of the core rulebook".

I think there may be a slight misunderstanding.

I'm not making homebrew in that sense, but a suggestion thread for the Cyberpunk 2077 Video Game.

My conundrum comes from wanting to find a way to explain basic concepts in just enough detail so any of my subsequent ideas
that build onto that make sense/are understandable to the Video Game community, yet such that I don't step on your toes with that.

Or how I am allowed to 'wish' for things that are present in the Sourcebook but not in the Video Game.

I did submit my mail over your hompage form for any further communication on that topic.
In hindsight I think this wasn't the appropriate place for that kind of question, sorry for that and thanks for answering to it regardless :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
