Hi, I am loving the book and have been using it for a while, but I never seem to quite to grasp the rules for Tables 1.7 and 1.9.

Table 1.7 includes some livestock which is quite self-explanatory, but my confusion comes with the mounts, if I were to roll a 78 and get A Draft horse, I would then roll 1d6 for the #loads, but why would anyone in theory buy 6 Horses at one time, previously in the book it is stated that in a contract one must buy all #Loads for the contract to go through. But adding to this confusion, the book also states that the mounts found in table 1.7 are common and found everywhere, but I still have to roll for them to get them in a trade node in the first place. This is made even more confusing with the Trained Animal's table 1.9, I have to roll a 95+ on table 1.7 but I don't know what Trained Animal I or Trained Animal II means, does it mean i arbitrarily pick 1 or two animals from Table 1.9? or do i roll on table 1.9?

Table 1.9 also states on the creatures with the...See more

Hello Dennis, thanks for the feedback.
I must admit that you are right and the explanation is not clear.
Once you roll on Table 1.7 it can occur you are entitled to pick animals from table 1.9 without rolling.
What is marked as a (4) is clearly my mistake, which generates confusion.
I have deputed each animal entry to provide explanation for each animal, and how much plausible it is to find such animal in a market once you roll for a trained animal on table 1.7.
I had to expand the content for each tier of trained animal, I, II, III, IV etcetera.
This occurred because I implicitly (my mistake) left to the DM the option to introduce these Trained Animals to be coherent with his campaign setting.
In other words, there is no indication on how to roll randomly the animals listed on table 1.9, unless they are picked on purpose by the DM.

Hi Davide how would you recommend adding this to a campaign? Im running a homebrew game and would like to implement a little and slowly get my players on the topic without knowing if they want to go down the entire rabbit hole. Maybe rather like a side hustle for one of the players. Do you have experience with how to get the players feet wet? My campaign has a map regions and factions also a merchant faction...

Ok. Let's solve this.
Step 1) We must idenfity the main trade nodes you want your players to interact with. I suppose you have a main city and few secundary trade nodes like villages, towns or hamlet. Assign or roll for each of these trade nodes what are the favored and unfavored trade goods. If you already have a general idea, according to your homebrewing, of what these trade nodes are, I suggest you use that description. This will be useful to have an idea of how the basic economy works in each of these trade nodes. If the main trade node (capital city or whatever) has Wood as favored good, it may be because they have a shipyard or they are building/expanding the docks.
Step 2) Instead of rolling random trade goods to ship from one trade node to another, pick them yourself instead of leaving it to the dice. This will allow you to control better the situation. As in the example above, it is possible that the merchant faction has decided to build a sea vessel or expand the docks to improve the trade...See more

Hi Davide. Thanks for your quick and extensive answer. Very helpful and responsive. Here’s where my campaign stands (5th session: very much at the beginning) and how I’m struggling:

So the general setting is: the land/ continent has an inherent energy which gives unique powers to regions through „energy stones“. These places can be manipulated by inhabitants to benefit their people. There are three factions (good/ neutral/ bad) trying to gain as much power as they can whilst neutrals want to give the energy back to the land and live in unity the other two factions try to use it for their good. This is more on a spiritual level but influences physical life as well.

That’s where political regions come into play: every region has its spiritual power and infrastructure more or less in place. This is where I see trade nodes coming into play. All regions have political goals they are trying to achieve. I can see trade goods deriving out of those as you mentiond (wood for ships as...See more

And one more thing that came to my mind. As contracts seem to be created quite random cannot be seen as a merchants task to travel enough locations to know where to find wood (to stay in our example) and organize for it to get to the desired/ demanded location? Or are they expected to always carry a certain stock?

… I guess that’s the merchants strategic desicion? Being more of a wholesaler logistics person or a specialist with stock traveling to certain places?

Sorry if this is still a bit unstructured… I’m trying to think of how your system will work in practice… I like the examples you brought but they get vast in the later part of the book where the part happens: how does supply meet demand.

I don't understand this, What in the world is the price modifier. it says like -2 or -4 or +2 or whatever I get that part and I see it in the table but what does it mean. is that -2 gold or -2 silver or -2 whatever the amount is or is like -20% or what. Because is something is for sale at say 5 gold and its -2 cheaper then its 3 gold I get it. is that how it works? you apply the modifier to the sale per unit price? Is that how it works?

Hello Jason. I will try to explain how to apply the price modifier. You apply the price modifier to the roll that determine the price fluctuation. For example, the standard trade goods whose price fluctuation is determined by rolling 3d6. You apply the price modifier to the 3d6 and then determine what the final price is. Let me know if this answer to your question.

Sure. When you buy trade goods, for every 1,000 gp of trade goods bought you roll 1d6 + the Accounting proficiency modifier. Then you reduce (or cash in) that amount of gp in your purse. Example. You are buying 1,000 gp of fruit and you score a 12 with your Accounting skill. You pay 1,000 gp and you cash in 12 gp. You always consider 1,000 gp increments, meaning that if you are buying 1,755 gp of trade googs, you roll once the skill check. If you are buying 2,000+ gp trade goods, then you roll two skill checks.
If, for example, you are buying 10,000 gp of trade goods, then you roll 10 Accounting skill checks and recover a bit of money.
It works the same when you sell.

If you mean pre-established trade routes where the main merchant character automatically earns profit without being present with the expedition then no, or better not yet.
In the guide you an east step by step process to build Trade Nodes.
In the next updates I will add a way to create trade routes.
Consider that this guide is intended to work on any campaign setting.

Don't suppose later on you could add some bookmarks to make it easier to navigate? 150+ pages is a lot to navigate through scrolling. But looks great otherwise!

For now you have bookmarks that link the Index to each chapther. However and as usual, I have taken note of your feedback. In the next update I will refine the bookmark structure to make it more navigable and will add a resume of printable tables at the end of the pdf.
Also, the next updates will include Artifical Wonders to complete the landscape.
Just to tell the whole story, the next updates must include:
1) TAGS to make the worldbuilding a bit more elegant. Local, Regional and Continental TAGS.
2) A Merchant House Generator
3) Artifical Wonders. I have already identified 23 articial wonders, like Pyramids, Great Lighthouse, Lost Army of Golems (Terracotta Army), and others. All inspired on real world wonders. This section will be expanded to include PDFs that describes these wonders as place that can be explored like a dungeon.
4) A refining of the Wandering Monsters section, to make the hexcrawling aspect a bit more elegant and versatile.
5) An extension of the wandering...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
