Moose Transport

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Moose is a Frontier transport, intended to connect worlds 9 light years apart in one jump. It is useful when looking for new markets and spends most if its time at starports with few facilities. It is not intended to be a warship, but can be fitted with turrets to defend itself. It carries 228 tons of cargo.

You get A3 size deck plans, a description of the interior and design and a supplement called Between Decks. This discusses the ancillary systems that are necessary to make a ship work, but are not covered in the design rules. As such, Between Decks is intended to help the referee with ideas to help make the game more believable. It also includes a few ideas for scenarios.

In Traveller jump speed (ie jump 3) is the number of parsecs traveled in a week.
A parsec is just over 3 light years - so jump 3 = 9 light years roughly.

How do the ship plans look? Curious about these plans, but agree with Kaladorn below about a better preview that include some idea of what the drawings look like.

PURCHASER
Bought the PDF. Looked it over. So far all I'm seeing is that it's a Jump 3 ship. Where in the product, does it show it can do 9 light years? Fuel? Enough for 3 jumps? Otherwise this is just a Jump 3 ship. The fuel tankage? Seems like a typo, it says 52 weeks fuel. But that's actually copy/paste for build time.

Would have been nice to have the preview contain at least a half page of deck plans to show the style and detail.

As with all of these sorts of products, I'm more concerned about the deck plans (and especially nowadays if there is a VTT version - a big image file - so I can use it gaming with friends as far as +/- 12 hours from my current location (yes, the other side of the world!)). It's important to see those or at least a chunk of them.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
