Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Fourth Edition Rulebook

Beautifully illustrated and presented with a good, focussed take on the Reikland portion of the Empire and return to some of the feel of 1e. Updated ruleset which sets out to address the main complaints of the previous editions systems and succeeds in many ways but is marred a bit by errata, patches of extra complexity for little payoff in enjoyment and a sense that some of the rules (shields, falling damage, the Hardy talent) aren't particularly well thought out or playtested fully, so while they've fixed frustrations of editions past, they've introduced a few new ones. Close to / arguably the best edition, but seems to have stumbled a bit in a rush for publication.

Atmospheric and open ended, although dealing with mature issues of domestic abuse.

Very silly, essentially a dungeon scenario. Enjoyment of genitalia-centred humour required and not the arty, intellectually sophisticated kind of genitalia humour either.

Not recommended, but your taste may vary.

An excellent scenario, my favourite of all the Shadow of the Demon Lord adventures available to date. The set up is situational, allowing it to be tailored easily to different groups and doesn't limit or railroad how the players deal with that situation. It also provides flavour on the Inquisition of the New God and the crusaders as part of the scenario. Well worth the low asking price.

A Year Without Rain (Starting/Novice)

Quite a fun, interesting premise with a formidable opponent. However, the scenario is stated as suitable for starting characters but seems pretty difficult for that level - the creatures encountered certainly exceed SotDL's 'recommended difficulty per day', with the finale, a fairly typical dungeon, exceeding that recommendation by 2-3 times if all the threats end up in battles, which seems likely - one of the peripheral dungeon encounters has a difficulty level equal to the main scenario threat on its own, for example.

It might work better as a Novice level scenario, especially as it's not tied to any character creation events as are the other two starting character scenarios available for the game currently 'The Slaver's Lash' and 'Survival of the Fittest'.

All in all, a reasonable scenario, but may require some work by the GM to heighten the mystery elements and perhaps play down the deadliness of the dungeon, which would be relatively easy to do by removing some of the non-essential combat encounters and having the party stalked by the main threat in a running game of cat-and-mouse.
