Interface Zero 3.0 Players Guide to 2095
Publisher: Gun Metal Games
by Henry F. [Verified Purchaser]

I'm a backer of the Kickstarter, which at this time is nearly 2 years late with the physical book delivery (among other stretch goals). The author of this product has been extremely divisive in his soapbox statements during the Kickstarter run, at one point removing the Cop Campaign from the game because of his own (newly found) political views. Despite being extremely late on the delivery, the author has started denying refunds because so many people wanted to back out after he started rewriting the game to inject his real-life politics.

Presentation wise - Interface Zero 3.0 is a ghost of Interface Zero 2.0 in every way. The previous edition had superior art direction, format, layout and rules. IFZ3's art is mostly recycled from IFZ2, but looks extremely out of place with the solid white page backgrounds. IFZ3's layout is amateur at best. In my opinion, IFZ3 doesn't improve on IFZ2's rules in any way; if anything, IFZ3 simply removes IFZ2 rules and doesn't fill in the empty gap (the Shadowrun 6e approach).

As a previous reviewer mentioned, IFZ3 doesn't add anything new and there's nothing here you couldn't achieve on your own with the core SW Adventure Edition and an imagination. I advise you pick up Interface Zero 2.0 instead. At the time of this review, IFZ2 is available for free (pay what you want) here on DTRPG.

SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIOR TURTLES
Publisher: Spiral Lemniscate Games
by Henry F. [Verified Purchaser]

The interior layout is decent; old school, two-column, and B&W. The artwork is actually very reminiscent of the older TMNT comic books. The bright orange front cover with various mutant animals is eye-catching. The art is what attracted me to the product... but unfortunately that's the only thing I enjoyed.

This is hardly a game at all; the rules are extremely bare bone and poorly constructed. There's hardly enough material or character advancement rules for a campaign. Maybe someone could use it for a one-shot? This feels more like an outlet for the "author" to piggypack off of established intellectual property (TMNT) while force-feeding some very disturbingly racist and prejudice views.

There's a random table in the character creation called "Identity Politic" that uses some extremely offensive terminology to describe the player characters; things like "cholo" or "undocumented". I myself am Latin and African American. I find it odd this game is supposed to champion for social justice, yet uses terms people of my background find offensive or derogatory. The author includes a large variety of races and religions, but made an obvious effort to exclude Christianity and Caucasian from the list.

I brought this to my gaming table (which includes mostly people of color) and no one wanted anything to do with it. We get together to enjoy a game, not act out someone's extremist viewpoints. I couldn't even find a single thing to cannibalize for a different system. This is easily the worst and unusable product I've ever purchased on DriveThruRPG.

Absolutely would NOT recommend.

White Christians are not marginalized. I mean you know that, right? Thanks for the reverse endorsement though, digital blackface right wing sock puppet!

Dark Trails RPG - Bootleg Edition
Publisher: Stiff Whiskers Press
by Tommy B. [Verified Purchaser]

Be wary, the creator of this "quick start" product is padding the reviews. On March 24th, 2020, on the project's Kickstarter page, update "Dark Trails Contest!", the creator asked his backers to pad the reviews here in exchange for prizes. Until the creator asked this of his backers, there were zero reviews here on DriveThruRPG. If you look through the reviews, you will notice over half of the 5-star reviews came in on March 24th and 25th (the day of and the day after he asked the backers to bump the reviews).

As far as the game itself, it's just meh. Subpar interior artwork (the cover is cool though) and just adds unnecessary complication to DCC's smooth mechanics. The gun deck is an interesting idea, but with little reward. Again, it just slows down DCC's quick combat.

Hey Michael, I'm not exactly sure what it is that makes you feel like the game is "crap", but thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts. I'm always open to hearing from folks that dislike the game as much as those who do. Why not take some time and reach out and explain the things you didn't like about it if you have time. You can reach me at Darktrailsrpg@gmail.com Cheers! Dave

Sorry for getting your name wrong, Tommy. I replied to the wrong review, sadly. I see you dislike the art and you don't like the added mechanics. I totally respect that. I'm also sorry you dislike the fact that I had a contest to encourage reviews (good or bad). Again, apologies for getting your review mixed up.

Very cool concept and preview, but it's been 3 years since we backed this Kickstarter and there have been nothing but delays and excuses as to why this book still hasn't delivered.
