Gygax magazine issue #1
Publisher: Solarian
by Steve A. [Verified Purchaser]

While it looks like the "old" Dragon magazine, and the comics were very cool, the magazine as whole fell very short in terms of content. Not so much in the amount of articles, etc, but in their substance. It seemed like so many of them were reminicent writings, such as "When I was writing back in the day, I remember...", versus articles that had gaming style tips, tactics, adventures, "new" items and the like. It did have that "old school" feel, and it was neat to see so many of the "old" names writing for it, but I think if it were trying to resurrect the feel and attraction of the early Dragon magazine it fell short - like zombie level short. Too bad, but maybe the next one will hit closer to what this one seemed to promise.

It is what it is. A list, just as it claims. It's really good if you're trying to populate a town or small city, and need something to fill in the area. As a GM, I find information overload and lack of time to be my worst development enemies. So a simple list to focus the ideas can be great. If at this point I can't develop something or figure out a plot hook, I need to go back to the other side of the screen. So thanks to the developers for a handy tool.

This didn't work - I have Windows XP, and recalculating gives everything a "#name" result. Might be me, might be the program, might be a gremlin, but it didn't work for me. Too bad, I liked the idea.

Great idea, and it would be a handy utility, but I never could get it to work. I checked the boxes, and it tried to to generate values, but it never displayed anything but "#name" or "value". Was something missing in the download?

I bought this only because the funds go to Doctors Without Borders. That may be cold-hearted, but it angers me that my Government can spend millions on people who really don't like Americans, and yet we have empty food banks and homeless in our streets, and the Government is cutting funding to it's own citizens. But that aside, Doctors Without Borders is an organization that could care less about the politics, and all about the people they are trying to help. It's only $20, but I hope it helps the DOW do a bit more. Good people those doctors.

As for the bundle, holy cow! There's a lot of stuff in there. 90% of it I'll probably never use, but as the other reviewers said, there is just about something for everyone somewhere in all that. I haven't made it through it all yet, but I will, oh yes, someday I will...

Thanks RPGNow for putting this together.

Mutant Future: Revised Edition (no-art version)

For anyone wanting to play 1st edition Gamma Worlds, but you don't have it, this is what you want! It's simple, easy to play, expandable if you feel the need, and just plain fun. My group ranges in age from 12 to 45. Everyone of them loved to play this - novelty for the younger and nostalgia for the older. It brings back the feel and quirkiness of the late 70's and early 80's games, and leaves out the complexities of D20 and most of the "modern" games. While the rules are laid out in a logical manner, easy to read and understand, the game does NOT have to make "logical" sense or even "balance" to have fun! I highly recommend it to any who want to experience (or relive?) the early days of gaming and the "original" PA game.

The 3D models lacked any spark that would have made them interesting. Overall, it was very disappointing.

But hey, it was free, so you really can't complain. However, it did cause me to remove other products from this vendor that I had considered buying.

But, it was free, so I got what I paid for I guess.
